Which cleanser, toner and moisturiser to use for your skin type

February 6, 2021 | Articles | Leave a Comment

Most of us are taught to cleanse our faces every night, but in most cases, that’s where skincare advice ends. Finding the right cleanser, toner, and moisturiser is usually a process of trial and error, often with certain brands being used just because its what Mom, Aunty, or sister used. There is more to a…

Known medically as Leukonychia, (from the Greek words leuko (“white”) and onyx (“nail”), white spots on the nail/s are most commonly caused by a minor injury or trauma to the nail matrix – the base of the nail under the skin – where the nail is formed. If you’re not sure exactly where your nail matrix is,…

These are some of the many questions I have been asked over the years. So, what is the difference? Well, a manicurist works with your natural nails. They don’t repair broken nails and…

Why you shouldn’t bring children to your appointment

June 15, 2020 | Articles | Leave a Comment

Have you ever wondered why many nail salons (or hair salons) ask you not to bring your children or grandchildren with you to your appointment? It’s definitely not because nail technicians or hairdressers are evil, children-hating beings, most of us love children, and I’m definitely not writing this to make anyone feel bad. I just…

How to remove press-on nails

May 7, 2020 | Articles, How to ... & Tutorials, Nails | Leave a Comment

The most important thing to remember when removing press-on nails is never force them off. If press-ons are removed prematurely – before the glue has had time to start breaking down – damage may occur to the nail plate. If too much glue was applied during the initial application, the press-on nails will stay on…

How to remove gel polish or gel extensions

April 20, 2020 | Articles, How to ... & Tutorials | Leave a Comment

Can gel polish or gel extensions be removed at home? Yes, they can, but I always recommend having gel polish or gel extensions removed by a professional. If, for some reason, you are unable to make an appointment to see me, or can’t get to a professional salon, then you can do it yourself using…

When you’re using a highlighter, there’s a very fine line between looking utterly radiant and looking very shiny and light reflective. When purchasing a highlighter, you’ll need to do your homework first and look for brands and products that have been tried and tested. If you’re using a powder highlighter, ideally, what you need to…

No? Want to learn? ... Book a consultation.

Express Consultation (per person) | $80.00 | 1 hour
Designed specifically for those who want to learn a certain technique, or to perfect something that may already be known but can’t quite get right. This is not a full consultation, we will only concentrate on the specific technique, for example: winged liquid or gel eyeliner – we would work on application of winged eyeliner, nothing else – no other make-up application. This consultation can be used for anything from learning how to apply eyeshadow to get a ‘Smokey Eye’ look; how to correctly apply blusher or lipstick; how to apply false lashes, etc. The choice is yours.

Full Consultation (per person) | $150.00 | 2 hours
Designed for those who would like to learn how to apply a full face of make-up correctly. These consultations are great for someone new to using make-up, or someone who feels a little daunted by all the products.

The consultation includes a simple skin assessment, an overview of your current cosmetics to assess whether they are correct for your skin type, and advice on what products would be best suited to your skin type and tone. Step-by-step application of your choice of make-up (daywear, smokey eye, or a look you’ve seen in a magazine). If its something you’ve seen in a magazine or online, please bring the picture with you. I’ll also answer any questions that you may have.

All consultations are one-on-one as I have limited space. This also ensures that you each get the individual attention that you need, and that you learn as much as possible.

The Secret to Eye-catching Nails contains tips, tricks, and step-by-step how-to guides, with 53 designs for you to learn from. Novices needn’t worry, because the chapters flow from one into the other, using what was learned in the previous chapter to help create designs in the next, and most are really simple to recreate.

From understanding colour, colour schemes and mixing colours, to tools of the trade and various nail art mediums, this book covers it all. It includes working with pigments, chrome, creating ombré colour fades, various stamping techniques (as well as a few TikTok hacks), how to create different types of French manicures, use nail art foils, decals and glitter, as well as how to hand paint nail art. Debbie shares what she’s learned from experience, in the hopes that it will help encourage novice and new graduate nail techs to think outside the box and do unexpected things on their own nail art journeys.
