How to fix eyeliner mistakes

Applying eyeliner can be tricky at times, especially when it comes to liquids and gels, but did you know that there are some simple eyeliner mistakes that may be making your eyeliner application even more difficult than it needs to be?

It may seem like a good idea to pull your skin tight when you’re applying liquid or gel liner to your upper lash line, but once you let go, it probably doesn’t look as good as it did, especially with that tricky winged look.

Try keeping your eyes in their natural position and work with short, controlled strokes instead. If your eyelids droop slightly, or you want to get really close to your lash line, close your eyes and lift your eyebrows to stretch your lids upwards. If you battle doing that, you could always place a finger directly under your eyebrow and lift it that way. Just make sure not to stretch your eyelid sideways.

Lining your bottom waterline (the bit above your lower lashes) makes your eyes look smaller, especially if you use black eyeliner. Using white eyeliner along the lower waterline will make eyes appear bigger. If you do want to add a bit of colour (or black) to your lower lid, try applying the eyeliner in-between the individual lashes by using short dashes or dots, instead of placing a line in your lower waterline, or use a little eyeshadow on an angled brush for a softer look.

A light dusting of face powder directly under your eyes will help to set your under-eye make-up and help to keep it in place for longer. Even if you don’t like using translucent powder over your whole face and prefer the ‘dewy’ look, a small amount of powder applied directly under your eyes will help to keep everything in place. Personally, I like to use a fluffy eyeshadow blending brush for this.

If mistakes do happen and your eyeliner is not as straight as you like, or it’s a little out of place, simply rectify the mistake with a little concealer on a small brush, and touch up any eyeshadow, if necessary.
