Ever wondered what you should look out for when choosing a nail tech or getting your nails done?

If you can't see their qualifications, ask where they trained.
If you're ever unsure of anything, ask - your nail tech should be willing to answer your questions.
If you're not happy with something during your service, tell your nail tech. You're paying for the service, you should be happy with the outcome.
If it hurts, tell them - they may not be aware they're hurting you.

If you're a fan of plain colour gel polish, you don't have to stick to one colour only.
Try one or two feature nails in a different colour, or a different shade on every nail (for example, light to dark pink).

There's no extra charge for a different colour on every nail. If it's still plain colour gel polish (no arty stuff), the mani will still cost $70.

Correct nail prep helps your gel polish to stick, however, did you know that nail techs are not legally allowed to cut cuticles in New Zealand? We're only allowed to push them back and buff any residue off the nail plate with a buffer or e-file.

Cutting cuticles (or removing any live tissue) is classed as minor surgery and is not covered under a nail tech's qualifications in New Zealand. If your nail tech is cutting your cuticles or removing a lot of skin, s/he may be exposing your body to a risk of infection, and it may be time for you to find a new (qualified) nail tech.
