Press-on nails: All you need to know

May 7, 2020 | Articles, Nails | Leave a Comment

What are Luxury Press-on Nails? Our luxury press-on nails are ultra-thin and cruelty free – we do not test on animals. Each set is individually hand-painted, with a range of pre-painted finishes to choose from, or you can choose to use the ‘design your own‘ option.

If applied and removed correctly, our Luxury Press-on Nails will not damage your natural nails. They are perfect to use for an event or special occasion, they can be worn for one night or up to 10 days wear, without the hassle of having to commit to backfills and fortnightly maintenance. The press-on nails are applied directly to your natural nail with nail glue, and if applied and removed with care, they can be reused.

Yes, you read correctly. Press-on nails are reusable! You can re-use and re-apply the press-on nails if you want to use them for a function or special event, or even wear them for multiple short-term uses. You can choose to wear them for one night and re-apply them the next time you have a special occasion to attend, or apply them once and wear them for the maximum length of time. If one happens to pop off early, simply re-apply it. The glue and back-up nails can be stored in your handbag or purse for emergency reapplication.

Each set comes with 24 nails in total, 12 sizes for each hand so you get a prefect fit (except for custom-made sets, these can be designed according to your specific nail sizes, using our size guide – see bottom of post, or sample size sets, so that the art is on the correct nails).

The set of 24 press-on nails comes with a 2ml nail glue, a nail file and small buffer, a cuticle stick, and instructions. There are 12 universal nail sizes for each hand to ensure that there will be at least one full set with a perfect fit (one full set of 10 nails, with 14 backups). Some women will be able to use two full sets of nails from one packet, depending on the size of her natural nails. If you want to, you can use the nail file to file down the sides (and length, if necessary) to shape the remaining nail tips to fit your nails.

Pre-painted sets are ready for purchase in the online store. The designs on these may change, and some of them may be Limited Editions. If you’d like a repeat of a set you’ve had before or seen in the online store, or want to send us a photo of a set you’d like to have a custom-made, please use the Press-on Nails Quote section on the Contact Us page.  Please note that we will need 2-3 days to make-up a custom set (depending on how busy we are), plus another day or two for the courier to deliver.

Due to NZ Health and Safety regulations, press-on nails cannot be returned or exchanged. If you have received a faulty product, please contact us via our Contact page (use the Other Enquiry section) along with your order information. Please take a photo of the faulty product, as you will be asked to attach one to the follow-up email.

You can customize your press-on nails by adding nail stickers or jewels if you have them. Painting over any matte, chrome or special effects nail art will ruin the original design. If you want to shorten your press-on nails, use nail clippers to trim off the excess and then use the nail file, then the buffer to get a smooth edge. Please note that shortening the press-on nails will damage the seal and may cause the gel polish to peel off.

Please be aware that lighter colours (just like gel polish manicures) may stain if you use fake tan, apply your make-up with your fingers, have dyed hair, or run your nails over a new pair of jeans (the dye from the clothing may stain your nails).

For instructions on how to apply press-on nails – there is an information sheet in the box with your nails, but if you lose it – read How to apply press-on nails. If your press-on nails don’t stay on for 10 days, it could mean that you didn’t size the nails correctly, or initially apply enough glue. As they are reusable, simply re-glue any nails that pop off, or check the size and use one of the back-ups if you sized them wrong (excludes custom sets).

Nail glue is specifically designed to start loosening as you wear your press-ons, so there shouldn’t be any damage to your natural nails or nail glue residue left on your nails after you’ve removed them correctly. Incorrect removal may result in damage – always read and follow the instructions.

To remove your luxury press-on nails, please follow the How to remove press-on nails instructions, a copy of these would have been included in your box with your press-ons. Never forcibly remove your press-ons. If you try to remove the press-ons prematurely, before the glue has had time to start breaking down, you may damage your nails. If you apply too much glue during the initial application, it just means that the press-on nails will stay on for a little longer than you intended. It’s recommended that you leave the press-on nails on for a few more days before attempting to remove them again. Please always follow the removal instructions to avoid damaging your natural nails.

If you’re looking for one product that’s affordabl If you’re looking for one product that’s affordable, gentle, natural and yet a very effective way of removing all your make-up – eyes, face and even waterproof mascara – then you need to try the oil cleansing method.

Oil cleansing is suitable for all skin types, but the ratio of castor oil to vegetable oil will vary depending on your skin type. Using the wrong ratio will result in drying your skin out. Read the full article: https://www.ramblingrose.co.nz/the-oil-cleansing-method/

Did you know that nail techs in New Zealand are no Did you know that nail techs in New Zealand are not legally allowed to cut live skin.

Removing live skin or cutting the eponychium (often mistaken for the cuticle - the thickened skin around the base of the nail where it joins the finger) is classed as minor surgery and can expose clients to increased risk of infection.

I've often had clients ask why it doesn't hurt when I remove dry skin around their nails, and yet when they've had it done elsewhere it's been sore. The difference is I'm only removing dry, dead skin cells. I'm not removing any living tissue or skin still needed by your nails or fingers.

A qualified nail tech should know the difference.
