I bought one of the small 15ml sachets of Freeman Beauty Charcoal & Black Sugar Mask from Farmers, as I wanted to try it out first before committing a full sized tube.
The naturally purifying Activated Charcoal helps absorb oil and impurities without drying out the skin and the Black Sugar acts as an exfoliator to help loosen dry, dull skin cells, leaving skin feeling really clean and super soft.
Upon opening the sachet, I discovered that it has the consistency of a sugar scrub and can’t be applied with a foundation brush like clay or peel-off masks can. I had to apply it fairly thick with my fingers, almost patting it on to prevent making a mess everywhere, but even with the thick application, I got two uses out of the sachet.
After applying the mask, there was this instant warming feeling on my skin that only lasted a minute or two. It felt really good, like the wet mask was drawing impurities out of my skin (the mask remains wet and doesn’t dry out like clay masks or peel off masks do). I left the paste on while I showered and then a the end of my shower, I put a little warm water on my fingertips and began gently massaging the mask loose, so that the black sugar granules could do their job and loosen any dry or loose skin cells. I slowly added a little more water and continued gently massaging until the sugar had dissolved and then rinsed my face.
Wow, I was really impressed! My skin felt really clean and oh-so-soft without feeling dry or completely stripped of its natural moisture. I’d recommend using this mask/scrub once a week to those with oily skin, definitely no more than twice a week, as its quite rough and over-exfoliation is not good for skin as it can trigger excess oil production and breakouts.
It says on the tube and sachets that this mask/scrub is perfect for all skin types but I’m not too sure how sensitive skin would react, as the scrub is very coarse and rough. If you do have sensitive skin and want to try this anyway, please be gentle when applying and removing it.
Would I recommend it? Definitely, especially of you have oily skin. Give the sachet a try before committing to a full size bottle. Would I use it again? Yes. I currently have a separate exfoliator and peel-off mask but once I run out of those, I’ll definitely be purchasing a full-sized tube of the Charcoal & Black sugar as it’s an all-in-one exfoliator and ‘wet’ mask.
Freeman Beauty Charcoal & Black Sugar Mask is available from Farmers and selected online stores.
